Heather Bartman started writing songs at age 11, weaving melody and lyrics together long before she ever picked up an instrument. While living in Guatemala, she learned to play guitar and just three years later, she formed a band in Grand Rapids, MI.
Today, her indie folk style captures that same raw, self-taught intensity. Starting intimate with airy vocals and acoustic guitar, her songwriting builds into rock energy as the band joins. Rooted in the belief that confronting painful emotions leads to healing, Heather pairs heavy lyrical themes with addictive hooks that linger long after the music stops.
A native of Grand Rapids, Michigan, HEATHER BARTMAN has been in town for nearly a month. She left teaching to devote all of her energies to music, and she’s living the ‘no fixed address’ romantic dream of every young musician, traveling the world playing her songs. Although she’s only been playing guitar a short time, songwriting and poetry have been her passion since childhood. For this show, a number of cover versions will be interspersed with her originals. She sounds more Tennessee than Great Lakes, but, hey, Jewel’s from Alaska, right? Krakow may just be a brief stopover in this young woman’s itinerary, so this may be the only chance to check her out, at least for awhile.
